It was with these words that Hiroshi Sasaoka, CEO of Sharp Electronics Europe, opened the Sharp press conference at this year’s IFA. Now that the technological race to make larger and thinner devices is over, LED backlight technology is bringing both image brilliance and energy consumption to new levels. Sharp brings start of new LCD production forward – world’s first tenth-generation factory launches manufacture of large-format LCD TVs and e-Signage displays in October 2009

Demand for high-quality LCD panels remains high. In the emerging markets, such as China, in particular, but also in Europe, one of the largest overseas markets for Sharp, the call for LCD TVs is rising despite the credit crunch. In addition, the market for e-signage displays is booming. To meet this development, the company is bringing forward the start of production in the first tenth-generation LCD panel factory in Sakai, Japan by five months to October 2009.

The future of television begins now: the electronics company Sharp is launching the two new LCD TV series LE700E and LE600E with Full LED Backlight. With less than 100 watts at 52 inch Sharp presents the LCD TVs with the smallest power consumption worldwide. Moreover, the TVs boast a spectacular 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, an even higher level of colour reproduction and constant screen illumination of over 90 per cent.
